Protesting maintenance workers to march in Sale streets

The protest by Longford maintenance workers is going to the streets of Sale today.

As the protest site outside Esso's gas plant enters its third week, unions will lead a march through the Sale CBD to the Angling Club where there'll be speeches and a barbecue.

ACTU President, Ged Kearney, says MTCT has made 200 Bass Strait and Longford workers redundant, leaving the option of signing a new contract for less pay.

"They're expecting the workers to take a 30 percent pay cut," said Ms Kearney.

"They're expecting the workers to take a 30 percent pay cut," said Ms Kearney.

"They're going to reduce all their allowances, they're going to lose annual leave, their shift loadings will be significantly cut...

"And they're going to force them to work a really horrible harsh shift roster."
